Triangle Lines and Sunlit Patches (2020)

Triangle Lines and Sunlit Patches began life as an homage to Barnett Newman’s style of using different coloured ‘zips’ (lines) to make colours pop or recede. Once I’d tried that out (see first photo below), I built up the painting with many layers of acrylic paint, painting glazes in masking taped sections, or flicking paint at the canvas. I particularly enjoy seeing the areas that look as if sunlight is bathing them. Here are photos of the process:
